I bet teachers wouldn't laugh, seeing these few attempts of expression in correct english, they would rather cry indeed...especially those one that are full of belief in their educationnal role.

Seriously, there's no reason to be ashamed of our english skill, it's a common french way to deal with wicknesses, blaming themselves but doing fuck all to solve the stuff..
just need to practice by travelling, watching movies in english and you'll get better...

Do the modos speak english ? If they don't, it'll be easy to write many things wihtout censure.

But it's not the principal idea of this items, just to perform our english.
I didn't speak english for 20 years, when i was student. I hope the result will be correct.

"Those who are" non?, "that " étant relatif à un objet et non à une personne ?

Teachers themselves often show poor language skills in spite of their educational role... i remember having very bad Spanish and English teachers at high school. As compared to Netherlands or other countries often qualified as "Nordics", Southern Europe has often found very difficult and/or useless to adapt themselves to common evolution..that is to say the growing importance of English.

Nevertheless, you are talking about the French case, but i also know few American or English persons who do not even know how to write their own language properly... and i am not even talking about a language that is not their mother tongue: it figures and show people that even though French people are still quite weak in English, situation is changing the right way thanks to newer generations.


I do not know if english-speaking persons will be able to switch to Chinese for example on the very day when it will become the global language as they assume English is the basis of all kind of exchanges!

you're right Tron.... I've seen however a thousand times a sentence structured with "..those that.." even in english speaking country.

about the topic, teachers can't be in charge of everything, it's foolish to think that you can learn a foreign language in 3 hours a week, especially in a group of 30 students..
English lessons at school must provide to the student some good basis in language structure and conjugation..but it has to be completed by personnal work and oral practice..(not blowjob little pervert!!)

"that" peut etre utilisé pour une personne ou un objet (en cela tu as raison) mais le bon usage de l'Anglais place généralement "that" devant un objet exclusivement et "who" pour une personne

Et eattheball, tu as raison aussi...évidemment qu'ils font ce qu'ils peuvent les profs;-), et il est clair qu'à l'oral, tout le monde s'en tape si tu utilise "that" pour une personne. Ce petit apparté était juste pour débuter notre topic ;-)

2. That is used to refer to animals, things, or people. Although as a general rule who is preferred for people, that is also acceptable for referring to people when the relative clause is restrictive, and sometimes using that (for people) will make the sentence read better.

This was this last reason (written in bold) which has made my mind to use "that" instead of "who", it looks silkier and goovier!! Émoticône
