you can use strange, weird can be difficult to translate ...

Dear Rico, If your argument is about the fact that some people could ignore the meaning of "weird"...according to my point of view it is beneficial to use a large range of terms to express ideas on this topic 'cause it doesn't cost so much to open a translation dictionnary, and some good vocabulary knowledges make you better in understanding..

however, I don't get what's weird in this topic, actually the post is clearly weirder than the topic "I'm getting bored with writting in english actually, since I often post on english tennis newsgroup and even more often read web sites in english..." well, well, well....

Well, I don't think so much when I communicate in english, "weird" is as appropriate as any other word with the same meaning. It seems just obvious to me. Maybe some people don't know this word, but hey ! just the opportunity to read it !
As for what I meant, this topic seems weird to me since it's pretty rare to create a topic where the only relation of the posts is the language used within, whereas it's more common to deal with a specific subject, whatever the means to express.

This kind of topic is quite rare in a French newsgroup, that's not untrue, but I find the idea really interesting..
After a period, If this topic become popular, It won't be foolish by this time to create several topics in english dealing with various domains..
If some members on this newsgroup are bored to write in english, I bet It won't be the majority. then I think that most of members will find quite interesting the opportunity to try themself in english on their favorite topics ..

May I ask you why "I have a big advantage compared to you guys" ?
I don't think you are fluent, at least you made spelling mistakes (e.g. "wroten (!!) in english".

Dimanche 24 Juin 2007 00:28

Oh yeah, I didn't see the mistake, sorry. It is huge! Well, I have an advantage because I lived in america and australia when I was very young, so I have been speaking english for now 10 years. Even if I lost a lot now, I can still speak well. But I'm not saying it's a quality, it's only because I lived in USA, otherwise I would probably suck in english.

It says it all : your oral skill must be far better ;-)
As for myself, I staid 6 months in Belgium, where I practised a lot my english (!).
That was because I was living with european students (irish, dane, spanish ...). That was just great moments. Yet I forgot a lot.

This is pretty pathetic, why did you came with this message ''I think I have a big advantage compared to you''??

This is a quite arrogant behaviour, in a first hand..
In a second hand, you writting skills in english have shown some weaknesses as soon as the first sentence came out...
Then, you should learn humility if you don't want people to take a piss out of you..

By the way, if a moderator(???) comes by, it would be great if he could delete the two messages of my brother(the other message he sent was just in the game that can last very, very long, so for a "toi", I don't really care).
Thanks a lot

That's Right Kiss cool, "on the one hand"..

onclearthur, no bother, I've just found weird the way with which somebody on your t.t.com account was saying that he had got a big advantage on all of us on this topic because he was fluent in english..but, anyway that's not a big deal...
Of course you're still welcome to express yourself on this topic Émoticône

I don't unterstand. All I was saying is that you had to say: We say "on the other hand" instead of saying: on dit "on the other hand". I was just asking you to stop speaking in french.

What i'd like 2 show 2 u is that in ur quotation the expression is still "on the second hand" whereas the right expression is "on the other hand". That's just a matter of quotation
